Hello, and thanks for stopping by. I'm a gardener and small farmer based in Pine Island, FL. I specialize in creating edible gardens that include seasonal vegetables, herbs, and fruits, as well as chickens, beehives, native plants, earthworm bins, composters and anything else my friends and customers may want. I have created many gardens here in Southwest Florida, including schools, community centers, restaurants, and private residences.
Along with my partner, the Unruly Gardener, I organize 'urban farm parties', where a group of folks congregate in a backyard and we not only set up a kitchen garden, but also explain what we are doing, hand out informative materials and seedlings, answer questions, and let everybody, young and old, participate, in a hands-on learning experience.
I manage one of this area's farmers' markets, the GreenMarket at the Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers, where the focus is in supporting local growers, bakers, and artisans. The GreenMarket is part of SW FL's drive towards a more sustainable lifestyle, not just by supporting local agriculture, but by offering the community free gardening classes and workshops, organizing recycling drives and voter registration days, teaching visitors how to cook with local ingredients, and much more. It's also a fun place to visit, with live music, free wi-fi, and a lively social scene!
This website is one of the ways I maintain an online presence. There's a Facebook page that gets updated pretty often; you can 'like' it and check out the latest news there. I also write a blog, Green Coaches News. You can also visit the Alliance for the Arts' page, where you'll find not just GreenMarket news, but many interesting art and culture news as well.
My name is Santiago De Choch (pronounced 'the coach'), and all my friends call me Santi. You can email me, or find me at the GreenMarket any Saturday morning. Thanks for visiting this website!
